Quaker Process

Thoughts on Quaker process from a wise Friend:

“One way to think about our process is to say that there are two requirements, both of which are equally important. The first requirement is that each of us will speak our truth as it is given to us to say it. But the second requirement, equally important and sometimes honored more in the breach than in the observance, is that each of us will release our truth to the meeting, giving up attachment to it. Once our piece is shared it belongs to the meeting, no longer to us. Our Quaker vision is that we will speak and release; and again, if we need to, speak and release. The releasing motion is as important as the speaking motion. It’s not until we release that we truly create space for the truth offered by others to be spoken and heard, or create space for the Spirit.”
